is currently the popular worldwide
website for vacation homes offering 95,000 homes in every nook and cranny
of the globe and a lot in Hanalei.
Rental Prices:
Prices are variable and the variations not closely related to value. The only
generalization I have found is that prices average around $60 per night, per "Sleeps"
persons, which is how many persons the owner considers can be accomodated bed-wize.
There are plenty of exceptions to the $60 average both upward and downwards.

Closeness to beach is a factor of course. You will see some properties in VRBO
say how many steps to the beach. But all of Hanalei is "close to the beach" Walk or bike.
And there are a few owners who will rent their beach-front rear Granny (some
Granny!) unit for around $60 range.
SwimJim, our geriatric serious swimmer, could care less about closeness to
beach if we are talking 50 steps versus 200 steps. His main focus is on swimming and/or
going to Ching Young's Grocery Store, the Tahiti Nui "Historic Legend" for slack key classic
Hawaiian music, Papayas Health Food for tropical smoothies, Java Kai for his Sunrise hit,
etc all of which are within 2 blocks of the beach and several blocks along the beach.
One catch is that some 2 and 4 plex owners will only rent the whole structure
(marriage trade) or will rent for a minimum of one week. This, too, is variable and negotiable.
Minor vrbo.com difficulties
SwimJim, has found it difficult to get an overall view of the choices, pitfalls,
ambiance and actual locations from the internet. None the less, any vacation home
in Hanalei, in his opinion, is better than a simularly priced hotel room most anywhere,
even Poipu, because of all the space, indoors and out, with kitchens, TV's, dishes,
food staples, games, etc, etc. Plus walking to the King of Beaches is not possible from
a hotel.
Two SwimJim Rental Options:
Ideally, any swimmers interested in this un-precedented Swim Vacation, should
hop on the Internet now...as Hanalei is not a complete secret.
Availability is another piece of the puzzle. Some units are not advertized or are
handled by one of several non-VRBO agents without listing anywhere. Some have every-year
returnees blocking out parts of the calendar, usually in the summer for the kids.
For a partial solution, I have two properties with short-term hold options for swimmers
in the unlikely event they cannot get one they like better. If no one wants these units,
I'll have to release them between mid-June and mid-July. See "Rent Details" page.
